Frequently asked questions about working with me

Manhattan building representing growth and sturdiness at this NYC therapy practice focusing on treatment of PTSD, trauma, and couples.

What’s your style as a therapist?

Clients often tell me I’m warm, authentic, and directive. I actively participate in conversation, offer reflections to help you understand yourself or see new perspectives, and gently challenge you when it’s helpful. I introduce evidence-based interventions and tools where appropriate and empower you to use them on your own.

Is therapy structured or open-ended?

Therapy with me is relatively structured in that we develop goals and a treatment plan, but I am fundamentally a relational therapist, so our relationship will always be the most important part of the process. While we will have a general treatment plan and use structured interventions like EMDR at times, I always remain flexible to client needs. Ultimately, it is my responsibility to balance being responsive to your needs while staying on course.

Who do you work with?

I work with adults, adolescents, couples, and families. Many of my clients are high-functioning but feel emotionally dysregulated (or over-regulated), disconnected, or stuck. If you’re wondering whether you “qualify” for therapy - the answer is yes! You don’t need to be in crisis to benefit from having a partner to work with you on creating the life you want.

How long will therapy take?

Some clients come in for brief periods to work on a specific issue, while many choose longer-term therapy for deeper change. We discuss your goals and expected timeline for therapy as part of the assessment process.

How will I know if you’re the right therapist for me?

The best way to assess fit is to meet with me for an initial session. Nerves are common when meeting a therapist for the first time, but you should feel safe enough in the session to be honest and share what you feel and what you need, without fearing judgment. If you leave our first session feeling understood, we’re probably a good fit. If not, I’ll help you find someone who is.

Do you accept insurance?

I am an “out-of-network” provider, which means that I do not accept any insurance. At the end of each month, you will be given a superbill that you may submit to your insurance company directly. Please inquire directly with your insurance company to find out if you qualify for out of network reimbursement and what your reimbursement rate would be.

What questions should I ask insurance?

Here are some helpful questions to ask your insurance company:

  • What is my coverage for out of network mental health services?

  • Do I have an annual deductible? If so, what is my deductible, and how much of the deductible has already been met?

  • Are there any limits or requirements for out-of-network reimbursement?

  • What is the coverage amount per therapy session?

  • What is the process for submitting superbills?

What procedure codes do you use for psychotherapy?

The most commonly used procedure codes are 90791 (initial diagnostic evaluation), 90834 (individual psychotherapy), and 90847 (family psychotherapy, for couples and families).

Do you offer in-person and video sessions?

I offer both teletherapy and in-person sessions in Manhattan. My office is located at 307 7th Ave, New York, NY 10001 — within a short walk from Penn Station and the 123, ACE, BDFM, and NQRW lines.
